- This is an industrial-strength quality water-resistant radio, suitable for daily use and rugged use. The Senhaix 8800 is the one to buy. I foresee this replacing UV-5R and pretty much becoming the standard for all non-digital HTs. The distance/range is outstanding and beats my well-established Japanese name-brand ham radios. Save up to buy a second battery once it is offered. The package does not come with a programming cable( purchase one from Moonraker), which allows direct programming via computer, download a program from the Moonraker website. Very easy. You can also program by Bluetooth it via a app , The link is available on Moonraker website... Many people are upset that this radio does not work with CHIRP. Get over it! It might work with CHIRP eventually. Nevertheless, programming is elementary.Power and Range: This is the shining star of this radio. Please don’t take my word for it ... check out other reviews
A fantastic little radio!! With lots of great features... easy to program and operate... charges quickly too...
Buy it !!! You won’t be disappointed
- Senhaix 8800
Downloaded apk for android and programing software from Moonraker website to be ready for radio arrival.
Once radio.arrived, found it was already programmed with VHF/UHF and PMR frequencies.
Used both methods of writing to radio, PC being easiest, but not much in it.
Changed name from frequency to repeater name for some local repeaters and added required ctcss tone.
2 ways to charge radio.
Cradle is quicker.
First impressions are positive. With Moonraker, you can use this out of the box.
Remember to do a write to Pc so you keep original channel list.
Some things can be altered from keypad, but not all.
1 side key programmable.
Long press Menu button to enter VFO mode, same to return to Channel mode.
Torch/signal light in base is quite handy.
FM radio is fine for listening.
Worth watching Moonraker site video on this radio for tips. More available on Youtube.
Receive audio is fine, and I gather it's ok when I Tx.
Setup auto key lock so it can be stuffed in jacket pocket safely.
Quick key press to unlock.
I plan to give it a good test. It fits phone cradle on cycle.
May well fit after market antenna.
